Some families will never own their own piece of real estate. They belong to the most impoverished, disadvantaged communities across the globe who live in squalid slums or toxic rubbish dumps. Here they dwell in cardboard shanties or other makeshift housing put together from rubbish they’ve scavenged – surviving under the most deplorable conditions. Without access to clean water or education, each generation faces the same depth of poverty and hopelessness as the previous.
PILOT real estate agents kick-started the Agents of Mercy initiative to create housing for these families and make a difference. Director Luke Woollard says “We believe simple, clean housing is a vital step in building pathways out of poverty. Putting a roof over the heads of the world’s most disadvantaged sets them on the path to a better life with a future full of hope.”
He is encouraging 100 x like-minded agents to join Agents of Mercy and give $100 each to reach our first project funding goal of $10,000
The first project will create housing for disadvantaged people in the slums of Quezon city, Metro Manila, Philippines. It will reduce the number of street children who are sexually exploited or exposed to hazardous labour.
In Quezon, large concrete homes with running water, electricity, swimming pools, and basketball courts coexist with tiny poorly constructed homes made from scrap timber and iron that are inhabited by the poor.
The initiative will deliver its first project with its charity partner World Relief Australia who are overseeing the campaign. World Relief Australia is a boutique overseas aid agency, equipping passionate people and delivering global poverty solutions. Deductions over $2 are tax deductible in Australia.
